Oktoberfest and a monthly networking luncheon were big hits in April.
April 14, 2025

Editor-in-Chief
Two well-attended Cosmetics Industry Buyers and Suppliers (CIBS) events in April highlighted the advanced popularity and networking advantages of the industry organization.
“CIBS went back to its roots in April,” said the organization’s President, Boris Schaefer. He explained that on April 2nd, 2025, CIBS brought the spirit of Oktoberfest to New York City in “an unforgettable celebration” at Bierhaus NYC. This year’s special event marked a return to the club’s origins, where it all began 77 years ago in a traditional Beer Hall. The first CIBS meeting took place on December 4, 1947, at the Old Brew House in Midtown, when 16 sales and business professionals gathered under the name “The Club Without a Name,” a precursor to the now widely recognized group.
The April 2nd event, dubbed “Oktoberfest in April,” was deemed “a resounding success” with over 200 attendees enjoying traditional German fare, including pretzels, schnitzel, bratwurst, and of course, a selection of German beers. The event also served as a special occasion to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Heinz-Glas USA, a company with more than 400 years of history.
One of the highlights of the evening was the live entertainment provided by The Polka Brothers.
A week later, on April 9, CIBS members and guests gathered at Manhattan Manor for the organization’s April Luncheon, welcoming professionals from across the beauty and packaging world for “an afternoon focused on connection, inspiration, and the future of the industry.”
CIBS’ President Boris Schaefer opened the event with a message of solidarity, encouraging attendees to support one another during a time of change and transition in the industry. “Now more than ever, we need to stay connected—with colleagues, customers, and suppliers,” he said. “That’s what makes our network so powerful.”
Kelly Gardi of Zignago Glass, introduced the company’s commitment to sustainable packaging. With operations in Italy, France, and Poland, Zignago Vetro produces both custom and stock glass packaging, powered by a vertically integrated supply chain.
The keynote was delivered by Sara Clasen, Vice President at Estée Lauder Companies and professor at Clemson University. In an inspiring address, Clasen shared how a single LinkedIn message from a student led her to launch a new cosmetics-focused curriculum at Clemson.
She emphasized the value of reverse mentorship and listening to younger generations as a way to both teach and learn. “Giving back—whether through mentorship, education, or simple conversations—can spark real change,” she said. “We gain insight, and we help shape the future of our industry.”
What’s Next: The event wrapped with reminders about upcoming CIBS events:
CIBS continues to foster community, connection, and collaboration as the cosmetic industry evolves.
